Westie Rescue is pleased to find that perfect Forever Home for Kayleigh.
Here's the report from our Volunteer on Kayleigh's adoption:
"Kayleigh has found her one in a million special forever home. They provide her with limitless food, water and love at all times. This home even provides her with a live in bird dog named Jane for her Westie entertainment. We all know that Westies can spot a squirrel or bird a half block away. But to have your own bird dog to point them out is quite a luxury, few Westies ever achieve. The 3 1/2year old female Kayleigh has done a 180 with socialization with her new family. She still has problems with strangers entering her space. I was very happy to see that she felt so safe and loved in her new environment that she was hiding behind her new mom's skirt and trying to crawl under the couch so that I wouldn't take her away. She wanted to be friendly to me but was in fear that I was there to remove her so she nipped at me. She was speaking to me in the only way she could. If I'm a bad dog you will not want me and therefore you will leave me here. She has new toys that she throws then chases them to the delight of everyone watching, she has turned into such a clown. Kayleigh has came further in one week then we could of hoped for in six months"

Description:Kayleigh is a special-needs girl who can only go to that one-in-a-million kind of home. A sweet 3 1/2 year old girl, who's awfully pretty (as you can see by her pictures), Keyleigh has some emotional issues that need to be worked on. In conversations with our behaviorist, we're told that her previous owners haven't exactly provided Kayleigh with the kind of home a bright, inquisitive Westie requires. To wit: - Kayleigh has been confined to a bathroom, for about 9 hours each day, with a puppy pad. That's not helped her confidence with learning how, where and when to go potty. This isn't a difficult issue to overcome, but it is one that will require some dedication on the part of her new Forever Family. - During her confinement, Kayleigh was not provided with any food or water, which has led her to have "food guarding" issues. Now, with most Westies, when it's chow-time, you get crazily wagging tails, but little Kayleigh has never been trained to know that food will be provided for her, and that fresh water is not a luxury, but rather a necessity. Patience with her in this area is an absolute necessity. Once she knows that she'll always have enough to eat and drink, she'll be just fine. - Because of the stresses in her environment, Kayleigh has "nipped" to let folks know that she's just not a happy little girl. Now, nipping can have several causes: physical, environmental and behavioral. Kayleigh has had a thorough vet exam to help rule-out any physical causes. The difference between an environmental and behavioral cause is important. If, as we believe in Kayleigh's case, her nipping is because of a lack of stability and proper socialization, then a stable, loving and well-bounded home-life is the best and most appropriate cure. Some dogs simply cannot adapt or have neurological issues which cause them to nip. At this point, we don't believe that applies to Kayleigh. It will take a lot of love and patience to work with this sweet dog. Kayleigh's problems weren't created overnight and they won't be solved quickly. We're looking for someone who is willing to invest the time, effort and energy in helping this girl come out of her shell, reduce her fears and prepare her for a wonderful life. Kayleigh's new Mom or Dad needs to be a special person with a big heart and an even bigger soul. Is it you that Kayleigh's been waiting for? |
