Description:

Sara is also very small -- We don't have an exact weight, but around 10 pounds. About 3 years old. She is HW- and fecal-, but Ehrlichia positive, so will also be on doxycycline for 28 days.

Yoda is an extremely small Westie. She is about 2 years old, and weighs between 7 and 8 pounds. She is HW-, fecal-, and Ehrlichia-, but has an eye irritation or infection that will require treatment.

UPDATE - We received the following email from the incredibly dedicated Foster Family who are caring for Sara and Yoda.  If this doesn't break your heart....nothing will.

"Hello!

After a long car ride, the girls are doing good. They were exhausted and took a good little nap this afternoon, followed by a hearty dinner, and some much need outdoor uninhibited playtime.

It is obvious that they are not used to human contact and are quite frightened when approached. They just shake all over when you pick them up. They do not nip or make any aggressive moves when you pick them up. It really does break your heart that they are so terrified. Queenie was actually in much worse shape when I got her almost 10 years ago now. It took her about a year to come out of her shell shock. Hopefully these two heal faster.

They are very bonded to each other. Sara (7 lbs) is a little fiester than Yoda (oh, please who named her?! 9 lbs). Sara barked at my dogs and was eager to greet them. She also runs and jumps on Yoda as she is running. Yoda scrambles to get behind Sara in the kennel when you approach. I leave the door open and they are exploring the kitchen when I am not in the kennel area. Sara is definitely a slight bit bolder then Yoda. Both are just way too sweet. They are just itty-bitty things. If you can believe it - Piper was bigger. (Ed. Piper was one of the puppies our Volunteer Fostered for WRNT.)

At first, I thought they had not been exposed to grass, but they explored the backyard pretty much like any new Westie. They are somewhat reserved, but started to run and play with each other. They did not seem the least bit bothered by any of the other dogs. I introduced everyone slowly, one by one. Queenie and Winston are my most laid back dogs. The girls eagerly sniffed and followed both Queenie and Winston. They completely ignored Badger. They seem to like following Twinkie. She is pretty protective of all the dogs that come here. I'm not sure my pack knows what to do with these tiny dogs. They remind me of Chihuahuas with Westie heads. I don't know if you can tell by the photos, but they look like puppies. Twinkie is a whopping 23 lbs., but Winston is a normal 17 lbs. He dwarfs the girls - that is a first.

They are both normal from what I can observe at this point. Both would only eat when I put the food in their kennel, which is common with some pups. They are playing with each other in the kitchen right now. Lots of exploring going on. Both of them are in pretty sad condition. The fleas must have been extremely bad. They have red, irritated skin. I am curious to see how their coats come in. Kudos to the groomer at Josey Ranch - she did an excellent job.

They are sooo attached. Right at this moment, I would suggest placing them together. However, in the future once they have a chance to experience a normal life, maybe they could thrive individually. I will keep everyone up-to-date on their progress. I want to take it slow with them so they have the most positive experience of people. The pack will do the rest. Hopefully they will be ready to place shortly. I will do my best. We have all seen that a little TLC goes a loooong way."

UPDATE: Our Foster Family have been doing yoeman's work with this pair of wee ones.  Initially we thought they were 2-3 years old (on initial examination) but have come to the conclusion that these girls are not much older than puppies.  Obviously, Sara & Yoda have yet to be socialized and are quite timid and fearful.  We realize that they're emotionally bonded to each other and have some significant separation anxiety at this time.

Our Foster Family have worked to provide these sweeties with a stable, loving environment - something the girls have never known.  It has taken a bit of time to get their medical condition stabilized, but they don't appear to have any significant health issues to contend with, long term.  The emotional scars, however, may not be quite so easy to treat.  To that end, we're looking for a Forever Family that can offer both Sara & Yoda the kind of love and stability they'll need in order to blossom into their full Westie-ness.

After a hard day's play!

UPDATE: We've found the PERFECT Forever Home for our little girls.  The adoption is being finalized at this point, and we'll be providing pictures of the new family shortly.

Medical Expenses for Sara and Yoda have been underwritten by the Betty Bilderbeck - Westie Rescue Memorial Fund, established in honor of Betty's deep commitment to Westies and Westie Rescue.  We believe Betty would be pleased to know her legacy lives on in Sara & Yoda.
