Description:Wicket is one of those Rescue cases that just about tears your heart out. When Wicket was brought to our attention we were told that she had massive tumors in her ears, was likely either deaf or going deaf and would be euthanized if WRNT didn't take her from the shelter. Well, most rescue people have soft hearts and soft heads - and we're no exception. When Wicket came into the Rescue Program we were shocked at the growths in her ears and just how bad she appeared to be. Initially, the diagnosis was that she would need surgery to remove the growths, with no guarantee that her hearing would improve, or that she would even survive the treatment. Detail of Wicket's current ear problems. Fortunately, after additional analysis the situation may not be as bad as previously thought. Our Rescue Vet, Dr. Gumfory at Westcreek Veterinary Clinic, has placed Wicket on a series of medications designed to calm the swelling, get rid of some infection and restore Wicket to good health. We will re-examine Wicket in a couple of weeks, when the medications have had time to take effect. If all goes well, we may not need to perform surgery - which would be the best possible outcome for this adorable waif. With a loving "hold me" attitude, Wicket is bound to be a wonderful companion for some loving Family and we're going to do everything possible to see that she has a long, happy and healthy life. If you're interested in adopting sweet Wicket, please contact us. If you haven't already done so, fill out one of our Online Adoption Applications (below). UPDATE - June, 2007 Wicket is responding beautifully to her ear treatments and is making such a rapid recovery it's just difficult to believe! With some medication, good food and lots of love this sweet little one is coming along wonderfully. After a procedure to treat a problem with some excess skin near her tail (We call it a "butt lift") and removal of a couple of polyps from her ears, this sweet girl is just on top of the world. As a matter of fact, she's so darn cute that she's already found her forever home! Talk about making the best of a bad situation - Wicket went from a sick little girl to belle of the ball. This is truly what Rescue is all about! |
