WRNT's booth at the Texas Scottish Festival was once again a smashing (or was that a "smashed") event!June 7 - 8, 2008To say that the 2008 Texas Scottish Festival was an interesting event is an incredible understatement! We started the event this year pretty much the same as last year, with our tent in the Clan Area. We chose to open our booth on Saturday. So, Saturday morning, with the assistance of two boy scouts, we made our way to our designated booth area. Once there we set up tent, tables, chairs and unpacked all of our goodies. This year we had many of the items we had last year with the addition of more embroidered towels and some handmade blankets. Unfortunately, Mother Nature had no intention of sparing the Scottish Festival again this year. Although the rain held off, the wind did not and with gale force winds, our tent was doomed. The wind actually bent and broke the metal frame. We were able to salvage the canopy top and our WRNT banner, but the frame was not leaving Maverick Stadium with us. Even with the shortened time we had this year, we managed to raise $144.00 and gave out many brochures and business cards. We had several of our Rescue Dogs make an appearance and all were very well received. We are unsure at this point whether WRNT will participate in future Scottish Festivals, we have to replace the tent first - so keep an eye on this site and www.texasscottishfestival.com for next year's event....and let's pray for no wind and rain! Our booth without tent you can see the bent frame in the background! |
