As promised, here are some absolutely incredible pictures of the WestieWalk 2006 Event.
If you missed WestieWalk 2006 you missed the Westie Event of the year. With 121 Westies (and a few honorary Westies) in attendance, this year's outing was the best ever.
You may have noticed a number of folks (and Westies, too!) wearing hot pink shirts. The theme of the 2006 WestieWalk was "Westies Walk For Cancer". One of our dearest Westie Lovers and a great friend to WestieWalk and Westie Rescue, Ruthie Koons, was recently diagnosed with cancer. Ruthie and her husband, Steve, have been battling this dreadful disease for nearly a year now. Originally we were told that we would lose our beloved Ruthie to this terrible affliction. However, after a long and painful road of chemotherapy, radiation and surgery, our Ruthie is still going strong and will be with us for a lot longer. It is only through the love and support of her husband, Steve, and the prayers and love showered over her by countless people that Ruthie has done so well.
This is our tribute to Ruthie and Steve. We love you and pray that you'll both be around for a LONG, LONG time!
Here's the whole gang!
There were 121 Dogs in Attendance, with 104 of them being Westies. There were 28 Rescued Westies in attendance, most having been placed through the Westie Rescue program. Of the 17 "Honorary Westies" at the event, 5 of them were Rescues, as well.
This one-day event raised $5,500.85, including the WRNT Challenge Grant Matching fund. $1,000.00 was donated to WestieMed and $4,500.85 was donated to Westie Rescue of North Texas. All costs associated with WestieWalk were privately underwritten, meaning every dollar raised from WestieWalk goes directly to WestieMed and WRNT.
