Welcome!

Welcome to the homepage of Westie Rescue of North Texas!

Spend some time perusing our site - there are some wonderful stories of Westies who have gone from life on the street, or with debilitating illnesses to healthy, happy lives.  It's what we live for!

Westies Needing Forever Homes

We list all of our adoptable rescues on Petfinder, and try to keep the listings up to date.  If you would like to adopt a Westie from us, please click the button below and fill out an online adoption application.  This will provide us with the information we need to determine whether a new rescue dog might be a match for you.  When a new rescue dog comes into our program, we look through all of our active adoption applications to see if we already have the perfect home for that dog.  If you wait until you see a dog on Petfinder, we may already be discussing the adoption with an existing applicant.  Since not all discussions result in adoption, however, we leave all dogs listed until an Adoption Agreement is actually signed for that dog.

Walking Them Home

Our newest program, designed to find special homes for ill or senior Westies, is underway.  The "Walking Them Home" program is designed to find loving homes that will provide the special care needed by terminally ill or aged Westies.

In today's social climate, our society values youth and beauty far more than it venerates age or cares for infirmity.  While we absolutely adore our Forever Families who provide a home to our puppies and adults, we often find ourselves having no homes at all for those Westies who are facing the most difficult times of their lives.

Please spend a few moments on our "Walking Them Home" page, and, won't you consider opening your heart and your home to a senior or ill Westie?  After all, it takes only one home to make all the difference in the world to that Westie in need.

Special Thanks Section

A special thank you goes out to the folks at Annie O's Grooming in Fort Worth.  They have graciously donated their time and expertise to groom several of our rescue dogs.  If you live in the Fort Worth area, perhaps needing a groomer for your special companion, why not consider calling Annie O's at (817) 731-PAWS (7297).  They are located at 5405 Birchman Avenue in Fort Worth.

A Note about Long Distance Adoptions

It's always our fondest desire to match a Rescued Westie with that "PERFECT FOREVER HOME".  We've been extraordinarily blessed to have dedicated volunteers and a tremendous amount of community support.  Many times, either via this site or through PetFinder or Yahoo Pets, we're contacted by extremely caring people who want to become the Forever Home for one of our dogs.  Since the internet is worldwide, we get lots of exposure for these really sweet dogs.

Unfortunately, the downside to that exposure is that some of the best homes may not be in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex or North Texas.  We've had to explain to a number of people why a long-distance adoption is difficult - so many, in fact, we feel it's worthwhile to say it right here on the website:

For each and every potential adoptive family it is our policy to undertake a Home Visit.  One of our volunteers is required to visit with the adoptive family, in their home, to make sure that we can match Westie to Forever Family.  It's never our desire to decline to place a dog - but it is always our intent to ensure that each placement we make is a good one.  Not every dog is suitable for every family, and vice versa.  If your home is more than a couple of hours drive from DFW it's usually not possible for us to make (or arrange) that home visit.

Secondly, even if we're able to conduct a home visit, we absolutely will NOT ship one of our dogs.  If a Westie is in the Rescue Program it has already experienced some form of trauma - at the barest minimum the emotional trauma of a new home and all that it entails.  Many of our Rescue Dogs come to us with injuries, physical trauma or extreme neglect.  It is simply unfair to the dog to put them through the stress of an unaccompanied shipment.  This is one area where we simply are unwilling to compromise.

We hope you understand our concerns are for the dogs - they've been through so much already.  We thank you for your kind consideration and appreciate your continued support.

Can you Foster a Westie?

As you might well imagine, WRNT constantly needs volunteers.  We need Foster Homes.  We need Forever Homes.  We need volunteers to work on Fundraisers, WRNT social events, to participate in the day-to-day activities of the group and to help spread the word about Rescue and what we do.

If you want to become a Foster Family, please contact Elizabeth Escobar at EE@WRNT.ORG

And, as always, it takes money to make this organization run.  With each heartworm-positive dog costing $250+, you can see that we're scrambling to make ends meet.  If you're in a position to do so, won't you please help a Westie by making a tax-deductible donation to WRNT?  WRNT is a 501(c)(3) charity and all your generous contributions can be declared on your taxes to the extent allowed by law.  Just click on the DONATE buttons above and help a Westie find their Forever Home.
